Product Description

5083 aluminium alloy is an aluminium alloy with magnesium and traces of manganese and chromium. It is highly resistant to attack by seawater and industrial chemicals. Alloy 5083 retains exceptional strength after welding. It has the highest strength of the non-heat treatable alloys, but is not recommended for use in temperatures in excess of 65°C.

Annealing: Can be annealed at 343°C (650°F) and then cooled in air.
Welding: Weldable by conventional methods using filter rods of the same alloy.
Forging: Temperature range of 454 to 399°C (850 to 750°F).
Applications: Missile components, welded pressure vessels, auto aircraft cryogenics, TV towers, drilling rigs, transportation equipment and marine parts.

Frequently Asked Questions
Q1: What are the primary characteristics of 5083 aluminum?
A1: 5083 aluminum is known for its exceptional performance in extreme environments, particularly high resistance to corrosion in seawater and industrial chemicals. It also maintains high strength after welding.
Q2: Is 5083 aluminum heat-treatable?
A2: No, 5083 is a non-heat treatable alloy. It gains strength through cold working (strain hardening) rather than thermal treatment.
Q3: What industries commonly use 5083 aluminum sheets?
A3: It is widely used in marine engineering (shipbuilding), pressure vessels, cryogenic equipment, drilling rigs, and transportation components due to its durability and corrosion resistance.
Q4: Can 5083 aluminum be welded easily?
A4: Yes, it has excellent weldability. When welded, it retains most of its mechanical strength, making it ideal for structures that require structural integrity.
Q5: What thickness range do you provide for 5083 sheets?
A5: We offer a wide range of thicknesses from 0.1mm up to 400mm, catering to both thin precision applications and heavy-duty industrial needs.
Q6: What surface finishes are available?
A6: The standard supply is Mill Finish, but various tempers like O, H111, H112, and H321 are available depending on your forming and strength requirements.
