High strength hard aluminum, which can be strengthened by heat treatment, has medium plasticity in the quenched and just quenched state, good spot welding, and tends to form intergranular cracks during gas welding. The machinability of the alloy is good after quenching and cold work hardening, and the machinability is low after annealing. Anodic oxidation treatment and painting methods or aluminum coating on the surface are often used to improve its corrosion resistance.
Aluminium plate is an important structural material for aircraft, mainly used in fuselage, wing skin, oil tank etc. By using aluminium composite materials, the density of aircraft's outer skin can be decreased by 5%-7%. As a result, the total weight can be reduced by 10%, increasing fuel efficiency. Due to superb corrosion resistance, fatigue resistance, and damage tolerance, maintenance costs are significantly decreased.
